Centre UCAS Overview Statement 2018
City College offers A level and BTEC programmes to students from the local area. 95% of our students are former Haywood Academy students with 5% joining us from other local schools. Our Year 13 cohort have predominantly studied 3 A levels and or 1 or 2 Level 3 BTECs. Our selection of courses are listed on our site https://www.citycollege.coop/curriculum/courses/
Our curriculum also offers Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, these represent a higher proportion of students. Our current Key Stage 5 cohort consists of 127 students, 37 of these are Year 13 A level students. Internal assessments are used at 4 key data points to determine predicted grades.
13% of the cohort are eligible for FSM. This shows that A level studies are not necessarily the norm for candidates from City College, and indeed that for many students, progression to FE might have been beyond family expectations. Students have been given the opportunity to participate in an enrichment program which includes work shadowing or volunteering, employability skills, sport, leadership skills and three days’ work experience.
Students have experienced taster sessions at a University and have attended the UCAS Roadshow. Students have had talks from University guest speakers as part of their Assembly programme and students have had Aim Higher days to experience workshops to better inform them about HE. Students have also had careers advice 1-2-1s via our careers team and many have been relevant to University Open days.
